Voicemeter Bannana Only Has Two Hardware Inputs
Objective
The goal is being able to mix your microphone and desktop audio into a single track, while leaving Discord out of the equation. This allows you to stream your desktop audio and talk while in a call, without your partners hearing themselves.
Voicemeeter Setup
Download Voicemeeter
Selecting an Output Device
Start of all, every bit you might have noticed: The software is asking us for a hardware output, you can annotation this by the blinking red "Select Main Output Device" on the summit right of the app.
Y'all tin can click any strip yous want, A1; A2 or A3. But to make it easier, permit'south go with A1.
- Click A1
- Select the Primary output of your choice (In this instance, I'm gonna select my headphones)
Strips and sound routing
Yous tin annotation that side by side to each strip, y'all accept 8 buttons. A1
A2
A3
B1
B2
mono
solo
and Mute
Excluding the last iii ones, which have obvious functions, the others all dictate where the audio in that strip is going to be routed to.
Recollect we selected our headphones under the A1
option? This means that if A1
is selected, all audio on that specific strip is going to exist played through A1
(your headphones). With this in mind, next step:
A1, A2, and A3 are hardware outputs, they are the ones who'll physically play the sound for you in your home so y'all tin can actually hear it.
B1 and B2 are virtual outputs, they'll output the audio internally and then other applications can choice it upwardly.
Calculation a Hardware Input
Permit's utilise the first strip for this, like the usual.
(if WDM doesn't piece of work, try MME.)
As shortly as you exercise this, you'll find that you're already able to hear yourself. Since we don't want to hear ourselves, let's disable A1
(our headphones) on that strip, then the audio doesn't go routed back to us.
With this choice deselected, y'all'll note that the bar moves when you talk simply you lot can't actually hear yourself. That'southward how information technology should be, don't worry.
Leave B1 enabled, this B1
output is what we'll utilize every bit our microphone in Discord, so if y'all desire people to hear your microphone this must be enabled.
Capturing Desktop Audio
Correct Click your volume icon and select Playback Devices
Yous should encounter two Voicemeeter devices, they correspond the strips 3 and four.
We are going to select ane of them every bit our default output, information technology doesn't really matter which 1 simply you accept to retrieve the one you select in example you lot want to do the optional stride at the terminate.
As always, I'm going to select the offset strip (not the AUX one) just so it looks more organized.
After you lot do this, you'll note that the bar on the strip nosotros select volition movement, showing the states that information technology'due south indeed capturing our desktop audio:
You'll notice that, if you disable A1
on that strip, you lot'll cease hearing your desktop audio.
Enabling B1
will route the audio from the desktop to the virtual output that we're gonna use on Discord. This is where y'all'll toggle whether or not you want your friends to hear your desktop audio on Discord. (We'll run across how to create a shortcut for that subsequently)
Discord Setup
All you need to do on Discord is to change your input device to voicemeeter's virtual output.
I have renamed my devices, and so yours will probably show up as "Voicemeeter Virtual Output" (at that place'll be 2 of them, normally B1 is the one that says "Voicemeeter VAIO" on the desc, and B2 says "Voicemeeter AUX VAIO")
You can double bank check now, if you disable B1 on both strips we're using, Discord won't option up whatever audio at all!
Exist aware of Discord'due south input sensitivity setting, this setting will also affect your desktop audio when Discord picks it upwards, so if they can't hear some sounds, consider raising your sensitivity
Creating a Shortcut
Before creating a shortcut, let's disable B1 on the Virtual Input strip (our desktop audio), and then this will be our default setting (not routing audio) and then we can press the shortcut to toggle that.
Striking Card and enable Macro Buttons
This will enable this modest app:
Open up it and right click an empty space to edit
- Fill button name and subname as you desire, these are just labels and does non impact on anything
- Button Type: Button (hold) or 2 Positions (toggle): Let's become with 2 Positions.
- Keyboard Shorcut: chose one that fits you the best, I'chiliad going with
ALT+F12
Request for initial country: Strip[3].B1=0
Meaning that B1 must be off for the shortcut to start working.
Request for Push on: Nosotros want to enable B1 on the strip 3 when nosotros press the shortcut, so allow's fill it with: Strip[three].B1=1
And we want to turn it off when we printing it once again, then permit's fill Request for Button OFF with: Strip[3].B1=0
once more.
Strips start from left to right at 0, then it'due south 0, 1 and 2 for Hardware Inputs, iii and 4 for Virtual Inputs
At present, right click the championship bar and select System Tray, we want this app to be running at all times, this volition make certain we don't close information technology by blow
We'll run across that whenever we printing our shortcut, B1 lights upwardly.
Optional Step
If yous want to, you can select the other voicemeeter virtual input as an Output on Discord, this will allow y'all to command the volumes and outputs in the aforementioned app.
Be sure to leave B1 disabled on this ane if you do this, otherwise people will hear themselves.
Other Info
I'yard non an proficient, I simply learned how to simply set this up, I am non able to troubleshoot annihilation. The setup is pretty straightforward and information technology should piece of work fine, in case information technology doesn't Google is a far more reliable source than me.
